Eye injury compensation

It goes without saying that even a minor injury to the eye can be extremely distressing because the symptoms can initially be so bad that you worry you may lose your sight. The most important thing to do is to seek urgent medical attention.

If possible, in the aftermath of the accident or at least within the next few days, it would also be a good idea to take photographs of the injury as often the eye can look bloody, red and/or irritated depending upon what happened. Furthermore, often the eye injury won’t show any symptoms in a photograph, however, a short video may help, for example, if your eye flickers or moves in an unusual way. This can be useful evidence to support the symptoms you had.

Injuries to the eye can include:

  • Partial or complete loss of vision
  • Blurred vision
  • Irritation
  • Cut or scratch to the eye
  • Burn to the eye
  • Damaged or swollen eye

At Aequitas Legal, we have acted for a number of clients who have suffered injury or loss of vision to their eyes as a result of:

  • An accident at work, for example, because your employer didn’t provide a face mask or goggles
  • A car accident, for example, due to shattered glass from a broken windscreen
  • An accident at a trampoline park, dance studio, fitness class or at school
  • A criminal attack – you may be entitled to claim under the Criminal Injury Compensation Scheme

If you have suffered an injury to the eye, you may be entitled to claim compensation for the injury and any financial loss you may have suffered such as lost earnings from time off work. If you have been unfortunate to suffer an eye injury, contact us as soon as possible to find out whether you have a good claim.
