Breast Reduction

Breast reduction surgery, which is also known as reduction mammoplasty is usually chosen by women who have encountered problems due to having large breasts.

Many women have problems such as, backache, neck pain, pain/groove in the shoulders from wearing bra straps, poor posture, rashes under the breasts and feeling self-conscious.

Recovery from a breast reduction can take between two and six weeks. You may not be able to undertake strenuous exercise or do any heavy lifting during the six week period. You may also not be able to breastfeed due to the separation of the nipple from the milk ducts.

Although it may be hard to tell straight away if you have encountered problems with your breast reduction, it is important for you to look out for symptoms that require medical attention.

Typical symptoms are:

  • Infection
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Hematoma (a pocket of blood inside the wound)
  • Loss of sensation or feeling (after 6-12 months)
  • Tissue death
  • Nerve damage

If you notice of these things happening to you it is important to seek medical advice and discuss your options.

We understand that it can be extremely difficult to talk about complications with your breast reduction and can be unnerving not knowing what to do next. We have trained specialist Solicitors that can provide you with support and speak the cosmetic surgery company on your behalf.
