Abdominal Reduction

Abdominal reduction surgery is also known as an abdominoplasty or a tummy tuck and is used by people who would like a flatter stomach or would like to reduce scarring on their stomach, sometimes in conjunction with liposuction.

There are five types of abdominoplasty. These are:

Standard Abdominoplasty

Skin and fat is removed between the pubic area and the navel. This procedure usually leaves the biggest scar due to the area of skin that is removed.

Mini-Abdominoplasty

As small area of skin close to the pubic area is removed and liposuction is usually performed at the same time.

Extended Abdominplasty

Fat from the loins and back are removed along with the area between the navel and pubic bone.

Endoscopic Abdominoplasty

No skin is removed during this procedure. It is used to tighten up the muscles,. Liposuction may be undertaken at the same time.

Apronectomy

This procedure is similar to the mini-abdominoplasty but is used for people who have excess skin and fat over their pubic area, which is removed.

Patients having any kind of abdominal reduction will be left with noticeable scars as well as numbness in the lower abdomen, which can be temporary or permanent.

A standard "tummy tuck" will require a two or four day stay in hospital.

It may be hard to tell straight away if you are faced with complications after your surgery. It usually takes up to two months for the swelling to go down after the procedure or you may find that you have experienced symptoms straight away.

Things to look out for are:

  •         Bleeding under the skin flap
  •         Blood clots
  •         Infection

If you notice of these things happening to you it is important to seek medical advice and discuss your options.

We understand that it can be extremely difficult to talk about complications with your abdominal reduction and can be unnerving not knowing what to do next. We have trained specialist Solicitors that can provide you with support and speak the cosmetic surgery company on your behalf.
