Examples of successful accident claims involving builders

-----------------------------------------------------------------

About accidents involving builders

Builders work in various locations and each site comes with its own hazards. However, there are a number of common causes that frequently appear in this type of claim, including:

  • Being stuck by a falling object

  • Faulty equipment

  • Falling from height

  • Lack of training

  • Site traffic

  • Trips, slips and falls

  • Untidy work environments

Injuries caused as a result of these accidents vary in severity, from cuts and bruises to broken bones and serious head injuries and, in some cases, they can prove fatal. An injury can leave a builder unable to work, making payment for treatments - or anything else that will assist your recovery - very difficult. This is why it’s important you get in touch with a solicitor as soon as possible.

Who is responsible?

There are various parties responsible for certain aspects of any construction or building site. Our solicitors will help to identify the right people responsible for your accident, and determine whether they have failed to create a safe working environment, which may include not undertaking regular risk assessments to reduce hazards.

If you’re a self-employed builder, it is not always assumed that you are responsible for your own safety, as many labourers can be hired to carry out working on a building project. In these instances, your safety is the responsibility of the site contactor, as it is their responsibility to ensure all employees and visitors are kept from harm.

Making a claim for compensation

If you believe your accident was caused by somebody else’s negligence, your first port of call should be contacting a personal injury solicitor as soon as possible because there are time limits on when you can make a claim. All injury claims have a time limit of three years, however, when this period begins depends on when you realised your injury was caused.

For injuries that are apparent immediately after an accident, the time limit starts from this point, but for injuries that do not present symptoms straight away, your three-year deadline begins from the date you realised it was caused by an incident at your place of work.
